Let’s set one thing straight.
Taking beauty advice from me is like letting a blind man lead you, well, anywhere.
Case in point: Despite being fully aware of the many, many repercussions of the following actions, I continue to function on barely six hours of sleep a night, drink an average of four cups of coffee every day, regularly fall asleep with makeup on, tan to the point of resembling a leather sofa and refuse to drink plain water (it has no taste!).
And don’t even get me started on my complete and utter lack of a proper beauty routine.
Judge me, go ahead.
I forgot where this was going but think it had something to do with the similarity between yours truly and a blind man.
The difference is that the proverbial blind man doesn’t know which direction to go, and so he doesn’t. I, on the other hand, know exactly what I need to be doing for healthy, clear skin, but for whatever reason I just don’t do it.
In light of that rather lengthy introduction, you may be thinking, “Why should I continue reading?”
Well, for starters, because I’m hilarious. But more importantly, because you know I will tell it to you like it is. (See the confession above for reference.)
So, by a show of hands, who here has tried a Clarisonic brush?
What did you think?
If you’re one of the few who’s never heard of the beauty tool before, here’s a quick lowdown. Clarisonic brushes are one of the most popular face cleansing tools of professional caliber. They use gentle, sonic micro-massage action to clean six times better than manual cleaning.
When the brand first reached out asking if I would like to try the Clarisonic Mia 2 Deep Pore set, I admit, I was very curious. It seemed like everyone and their mother had a vibrating face brush – except me. Furthermore, I obviously wasn’t putting forth any personal effort to improve my skin, and the hefty promises of reduced pore size and improved skin tone sounded very, very alluring.
What did I have to lose?
The latter rationale doesn’t always work when question turns to applying products to the most sensitive skin on your body, but the point is that I agreed.
For three weeks straight, I used the Clarisonic Mia 2 with the Deep Pore Daily Cleanser every evening, alternating to the Deep Pore Clay Mask once a week. According to the brand, the brush is gentle enough to be used twice a day. But I have yet to master the art of The Morning Face Wash, so evenings it was.
One evening, some time during the second week, I was obliviously massaging away when I suddenly realized, “Well, would you look at that! I have a beauty routine!”
I nearly dropped the brush from excitement.
Another discovery I made during the three weeks is that when you invest time and resources into just one aspect of skincare, you begin paying attention to other factors as well. Suddenly I was more conscious of my caffeine intake and made a point to drink more water throughout the day. (For the record, when I say “water” I actually mean La Croix, but it’s still progress!) I even applied sunscreen every day of our week-long beach vacation; that alone is a major accomplishment!
In retrospect, I realize that my hope to see results from the Clarisonic Mia 2 encouraged me to not do anything that would hinder whatever progress the brush had made. This, of course, is a win for both the brush and myself. The brush wins because here I am recommending it. I win because minor lifestyle changes combined with the work of Clarisonic has done wonders to my skin.
For one, the only other product that makes a regular appearance in my routine is a facial moisturizer. What’s more, the frown crease that has taken permanent residence between my eyebrows seems to be diminishing, as are the pores on my nose, chin and cheeks.
I’m not looking forward to having to purchase a brush head replacement, though, because I hear they can be a bit pricey. Thankfully, Clarisonic is offering FOXY OXIE readers a 15% discount from now until November 20. Just use the code HERCAMPUS when checking out. With the holidays fast-approaching, you just may want to go ahead and stock up on the Mia 2 for all your friends, too, because as I’ve learned, the Clarisonic Mia 2 is more than just a cleansing brush; it’s a step towards a healthier lifestyle.
