If you're a busy woman like me, completing a menial task like washing your face requires dedicated effort and inspirational talking-to with the affected persona of a therapist, "You can do this," I tell myself.
Sometimes I feel like I deserve an award just for taking my makeup off before bed.
You feel my pain?
It's no surprise that I was hesitant to add another step to my nightly beauty regimen with a pre-cleansing product.
What initially piqued my interest was the brand name; after I discovered the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant, it quickly became one of my favorite beauty products, so I was excited to try another line from the brand. In addition, the Dermalogica PreCleanse Oil-Busting Emulsifier & Wipes claimed to be gentle enough to be used around the eye area and remove the most stubborn of waterproof mascaras – something I've struggled with in the past.
Of course, I had to give it a try.
This plant-based cleansing oil claims to "thoroughly melt layers of excess sebum (oil), sunscreen, waterproof make-up, environmental pollutants and residual skin products that build-up during the day." I have combination skin, meaning that some parts of my face are dry or flaky, while others, like the nose and forehead, are oily, so I was concerned about putting oil on my face, expecting it to break out. The entire idea of using oil to remove oil seemed a bit contradictory to me, but then again, I had never truly done research on cleansing with oils.
When mixed with water, the Dermalogica PreCleanse Oil-Busting Emulsifier transforms into an almost soapy-like texture, without stripping your skin like soap does. I was pleasantly surprised that the product left my face feeling smooth and clean – no tight, dry skin, and no greasy mess you'd expect from an oil-based product. The blend of various oils helps break down and reduce buildup on the skin, more so than average makeup wipes. You literally feel like the dirt is melting off your face.
My remaining concern is the eye area. After using the wipes once a week for five weeks, I developed an allergic reaction under my left eye. I cannot say whether it was a result of the ingredients, or the fact that perhaps I'm so accustomed to rubbing extremely hard when using regular makeup wipes to remove stubborn mascara that maybe I continued to do the same with the Dermalogica PreCleanse Wipes. Either way, I'm going to give the product a rest for a bit, and see what happens.
I’m curious to know whether you’ve tried this product, or any Dermalogica products, for that matter? Are you a fan of cleansing with oils? Which cleansing products are your favorite? Go on, now. Spill your beauty secrets in the comment section.
