Fall 2017 One Room Challenge, Week 7: The Reveal

It never fails. At the conclusion of every ORC season I state that the forces of the universe are clearly conspiring against me – or at the very least against me joining the ORC ever again.

It’s insane enough that I decided to join this round with a three-month baby. Add to that:

  1. Being notified that my maternity leave ends a week earlier than I originally thought (my first day back at work is actually today),
  2. A baby who up to this point has been happy-go-lucky but suddenly turned into a stage-5 clinger, and
  3. A malfunctioning camera the day before this post was to go live and I had yet to photograph the rooms.

Let’s just say the last seven weeks have been tough. My days – much like the previous, oh-so-eloquent sentence – are running together into a messy, jumbled blur.

Nonetheless, I am not one who starts a project and then quits. While I may not have accomplished every item on my unrealistically massive to-do list (let’s be reasonable, I never intended to, anyway), I am very happy to have completed even a few projects.

Before I get too carried away with my sobfest, here’s a little back story for anyone who may be new to FOXYOXIE.com.

In July 2015 the husband and I happened upon some investment property – nearly seven acres of property, to be exact. On that property stood an abandoned bungalow, originally built in 1930 and left to rot for the last 20 years.

Like any rational and sane couple, our immediate reaction was, “Can you imagine the fun we’d have renovating this house?”

Spoiler alert: In retrospect, I’m not so sure “fun” is the word I would use… Feel free to peruse the “Our Bungalow Renovation” series to see how it all went down.

Fast-forward 2 years and one sweet, delicious baby later.

Although we’ve been living here for over a year, many of the rooms were still unfinished. So when time came for the One Room Challenge, I thought, why not tackle 10 different spaces and be finished with everything once and for all?! In other words, why not willingly give up whatever little is left of my sanity?!

I know, I know. I did this to myself. I really just wanted to use the challenge as a stressor to complete as many house projects as possible – and that’s what I did.

If you’re new to the blog today and have no idea what’s going on, check out the weekly progress here:

Okay, wow – that was a lot! If you’re still reading, THANK YOU! Clearly, I have a lot of feelings about the One Room Challenge, and I’m not afraid to share them.

I’ve tried to list all of the sources under each room, but if there’s anything I missed, let me know in the comments section. Speaking of comments, I would love to hear what you think of our five transformed spaces!

Don’t forget to pop over to Calling It Home to see the other participants’ room tours.

Curious about what else we’ve done to the #StrelkovBungalow, as I’ve lovingly nicknamed it on Instagram? Browse the full “Our Bungalow Renovation” series to read all about it! You can also tour my very first ORC: the living room, and last fall’s ORC: our nursery.

A Note of Thanks:

Huge thanks to Linda from Calling It Home and House Beautiful Magazine for hosting the One Room Challenge.

I’d also like to thank my ORC sponsors, who so generously donated products and helped bring our vision for each room to life: Minted, Lamps Plus, Home Dynamix and Rust-Oleum.
